Bambu Indah Ubud

Bambu Indah ubud – or literally means Beautiful Bamboo – is located in the village of Baung, Sayan about 15 minutes drive from Ubud.

have Seven one-room Java Houses: Kuno House, Kuning House, Kolam House, Jawa Lama House, Padi House, Elora House, and Afrika House , each one over 100 years old; made of hand-carved teak wood, some intricately hand-painted, and finished with thatched grass roofs. These houses once served as the residences of Javanese noblemen that John Hardy found on his recent trip to Java.

Since then he brought them back to Bali and lovingly restored them to serve as accommodation to many of his guests as well as a private hotel. Each of the Java Houses has a four-poster bed with hand made mosquito netting, goose down pillows, surrounded by antique Indonesian furnishings from John & Cynthia Hardy private collection.

Bathrooms combine a state-of-the-art technology with artisan charm: hand-hammered copper sinks, plush towels and open-air rain fall showers with hot & cold water. Each house is unique with decoration reflecting its names; Antique (Kuno), Yellow (Kuning), Rice (Padi), Kolam, Jawa lama, Elora and Afrika. Each antique house is equipped with the modern comforts of air conditioning, electronic personal safe, IDD phone (calls made are chargeable), organic & chemical free bathroom amenities & mosquito repellant, rain coats and umbrellas.

In the middle of the four houses compound, a Sumatra-style structure fondly dubbed by our staffs as Rumah Minang, is the centerpiece of Bambu Indah; it was built entirely of rare Javanese Black Bamboo & black roof from palm trunks by two Sumatrans master builders.

Rumah Minang can be used for yoga retreats and practice, special tailor made lunch or dinners, traditional Balinese dinners or if you wish to celebrate a special occasion we will be glad to set it up according to your wishes. In front of the Minang house is a 26 m lap pool, but it doesn’t look like a swimming pool you maybe used to.

It runs without chemicals, a small bacteria in the lava stone in the river that runs around the black bamboo house keeps the water clear.
